I know you Beauties have been waiting for this specific post. Most of you have oily skin and I know your woes, particularly living in the tropics with our unforgiving humidity. For avid makeup wearers in the hotter months it can be a horror story. So let's get right into this; continue reading for my skincare products to combat oily skin.
First of all it must be stated that oily skin needs moisture. I ask some of you what you moisturize with and many of you say “nothing, I have oily skin I don't need to add more to it”. This is a rookie mistake; your skin will over produce oil if its being starved and not hydrated.
Second. Please heed this warning. DO NOT USE MILK OF MAGNESIA ON YOUR FACE. This is what you call a quick fix. It creates a layer that stops oil from coming through and ruining your makeup but the effects on your skin in the long run are horrible. Milk of magnesia dries out your skin, clogs your pores and offsets the natural ph balance in your skin. The minute you stop using it you will see just how much oil your skin is going to produce to compensate for what you have been using on it.
L'Oreal Hydra Genius Aloe Water Moisturizer for Oil Skin
The formula is light, cooling and refreshing on the skin while locking in a huge amount of moisture in the skin! The key ingredient that does this is hyaluronic acid. This is a naturally occurring (our bodies produce it) acid that works as a binding agent for moisture. Therefore while the formula does not appear to be the most emollient, it holds moisture in your skin. What this means is your skin is continually hydrated throughout the day.
L'Oreal Pure Clay Cleanser in Purify and Mattify
This cleanser is my current top pick for oily skin. The mousse like texture is delightful on the skin. This formula includes eucalyptus which is proven to help with acne prone and oily skin. You will find when you have cleansed your skin feels clean, refreshed and with a matte finish.
Mehron Skin Prep
This toner is my pick for replacing milk of magnesia. It is a fragrance free, liquid antiperspirant. Use a couple drops on a cotton pad and apply to your skin before moisturizing. You will feel your skin tighten after a few seconds, do not be alarmed that is just the product doing its thing. Apply your makeup over it like you normally would. The result will be a great oil control for the entire day.
